The handles on the mallets are either 10-3/4" or 12". The handles are made from poplar because even though it may break more easily, it transfers less shock to your hands and wrists than the harder woods. [In over 400 shows playing hard, Maine Marimba Ensemble has only broken a small handful of handles total.] Broken handles can also easily be replaced.
